Under the supervision and guidance of master conservator Bart Verbeke of Gent, Belgium, AlbanyMural can conserve and restore historic or modern paintings determined to be in sufficient condition to sustain repair. Larger paintings are restored in the United States. Smaller works may be shipped to Belgium to Atelier Bart Verbeke for conservation and restoration.
AlbanyMural can also conserve and restore decorative wall and ceiling paintings, historic or decorative stenciled art, and other painted ornamentation in both public and private buildings.
Art Replication Solutions
Paintings damaged beyond practical repair can be replicated or copied with new materials.
Paintings and murals that have deteriorated or discolored over time, have sustained damage from water, impact, abrasion, mold, or pollution, may not be suitable candidates for restoration. If adequate photo documentation of the original state of the mural or artwork is available, AlbanyMural can replicate the original painting composition on new canvas, board or surface substrate with modern materials.
Paintings can also be replicated if one or more copies of the original are desired.
AlbanyMural can also replicate, or copy, historic or decorative stenciled art, and other painted ornamentation on canvas, panels, prepasted wallpaper, or directly on the walls or ceilings of public or private buildings.

Step 1: Examine the original. Pigments have aged and the canvas has been damaged in this example.
Step 2: Study the original to begin to copy the painting. Photographs and other records of the original are always present during the replication or restoration processes.
Step 3: Continue painting in stages, monitoring and matching the original closely at every step of the process.
Step 4: Complete painting details and shadows to recreate the painting "as new" or age the painting with tinted varnishes or glazes (not shown in this example).
